The month kicks off with the one and only Tour of Flanders (April 1) and Team Sky will again be looking to get in the mix and be a part of the major moves. A strong eight-man squad is more than capable of competing at the sharp end, with Juan Antonio Flecha also scheduled to make his return following a hand injury.

As well as Belgium there is also focus on the Basque Country as the Vuelta al Pais Vasco (April 2-7) sees the squad’s climbing talent set loose in the cycling hotbed. Sergio Henao, Thomas Löfkvist and Lars-Petter Nordhaug are set to be joined by Michael Rogers to make up half of the exciting eight-man line-up.

The ‘Queen of the Classics’ Paris-Roubaix (April 8) is set to be as keenly-fought as ever, with the team taking the same squad that raced a week earlier in Flanders in a bid to snare a monument in Team Sky colours. Edvald Boasson Hagen, Bernhard Eisel, Flecha, Mathew Hayman, Jeremy Hunt, Christian Knees, Ian Stannard and Chris Sutton will take the start.

Ardennes arrival

After the Northern Classics it’s straight into the Ardennes for three WorldTour races in eight days to give the punchy climbers chance to shine. First up is Amstel Gold (April 15), where the team will be looking to make it two podiums in two years in Holland.

Further WorldTour points will be up for grabs as identical squads tackle first Fleche Wallonne (April 18) before the third monument of the month – Liege-Bastogne-Liege (April 22). Fresh from his fifth place at Volta a Catalunya, Rigoberto Urán comes into the squad alongside Davide Appollonio, Henao, Löfkvist, Nordhaug, Salvatore Puccio, Luke Rowe and Xabier Zandio.

April comes to an end with a prestigious stage race which sees an imposing line-up arrive at the Tour de Romandie (April 24-29). The race marks the first time Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish will compete side by side in Team Sky colours, with the duo joined by Chris Froome, Jeremy Hunt, Danny Pate, Richie Porte, Rogers and Kanstantsin Siutsou.
