Edvald Boasson Hagen wrapped up his third-placed finish at the Eneco Tour by battling to sixth spot on the final time trial stage in Genk.
The Norwegian - who won the points classification on Monday - hurtled around the pan-flat 16.9km circuit in 20 minutes and 48 seconds and retained his overall podium position with 11 seconds to spare ahead of Saxo Bank's Richie Porte.
It was Tony Martin (HTC-Columbia) who proved the fastest rider on the day and the German also secured the 2010 title in the process with his time of 20min 24sec.
Maarten Tjallingii (Rabobank) finished six seconds behind Martin on Tuesday, with Alex Rasmussen (Saxo Bank) a further three seconds adrift in third.
Those results also ensured Martin topped the general classification with a 31-second cushion over Rabobank's Koos Moerenhout, with Boasson Hagen 1min 46sec back.
It was Rasmussen that had set down his formidable marker early in the day and despite Boasson Hagen's best efforts, Tjallingii was the only rider to better his time before Martin hit the road.
The 25-year-old was forced to give it all he had as his closest GC rival Moerenhout had set a rapid pace immediately before him and did just that to claim his first overall victory of the season.
De Jongh hails effort
After the stage sports director Steven de Jongh was able to reflect on a productive eight days of racing for Team Sky and was pleased to see Boasson Hagen retain his top-three position.
He told us: "Edvald did a really good time trial and he couldn't have ridden any faster today. He also achieved his goal of keeping his third place on the GC, so we're all very happy for him.
"G [Geraint Thomas] put in a good, solid ride as well to finish the day in 15th. He has been feeling a bit tired in the past few stages but came up with a strong performance today.
"It's been a good tour for the team as a whole and they've all worked well together. The atmosphere has been upbeat every day which is always pleasing to see as well, and I'm sure we'll push on from this in the races to come."
