Edvald Boasson Hagen rounded off the Tour of Qatar with a sixth-placed finish in the sixth and final stage at the Doha Corniche.
The young Norwegian wore the leader's golden jersey after Team Sky's victory in the opening team time trial and was also a close-up third on the penultimate stage.
The final stage, a 123.5km route which ended with seven laps of a 6km city loop, saw Team Sky produce a huge effort in the final four kilometres. Six of the riders were right on the head of the peloton, with Bradley Wiggins and Ian Stannard among those putting in big turns on the front.
Russell Downing was then to the fore as he tried to tee up Boasson Hagen but a desperate sprint finish saw Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas) sweep past everyone to land the spoils and his second stage win of the race.
He came from sixth to first in the last 50 metres, relegating Tyler Farar (Garmin-Transitions) and Juan Jose Haedo (Saxo Bank) to second and third respectively.
Wouter Mol (Vacansoliel) held on comfortably to top the overall standings, his breakaway with Geert Steurs on stage two effectively deciding the race.
Oman next on the agenda
Team Sky will take plenty out of the race too, having started in style with their team trial victory before finishing strongly with prominent showings in the last two stages.
They now move on to the Tour of Oman on Sunday, with five of the riders from Qatar (Boasson Hagen, Juan Antonio Flecha, Lars-Petter Nordhaug, Stannard and Geraint Thomas) joined by Mathew Hayman, Chris Sutton and Davide Viganò.
"We were really motivated to get up there and have another crack today," said Senior Sports Director Scott Sunderland. "It didn't quite come off like we were hoping for, with Edvald ending up finishing sixth, but that's the way it goes sometimes.
"I think they did a great job, they really took it to the rest of the peloton. We were probably just one man short in the closing 500 metres.
"We just need a little bit more fine tuning and then we'll get it 100% right. But all in all they did a fantastic job and worked really well so I like their chances next week at the Tour of Oman."
