After a tough day's racing in the GP dell'Insubria-Lugano, Team Sky's group of riders will only have one night to rest and recuperate before taking on the GP di Lugano.

Unlike its sister event on the Saturday, the GP di Lugano is a far more established fixture on the UCI Europe Tour and this will be the 28th time the race has taken place since it changed from its earlier incarnation as an individual time trial.

Here we take a look at the route the riders will face as they pedal 178.5km around the Swiss canton of Tichino.

The first half of the race sees the peloton take on five laps of the 18.4km 'Giro di Sorengo', which exits Lugano to the south along the lake's shoreline before cutting inland at Paradiso. The route continues down through Grancia and into Figino before hugging the banks of the lake again and following it all the way up to Agnuzzo. From there the riders will head east, just south of the Lake of Muzzano, before making their way back into Lugano.

Once that has been completed the bunch must then take on a further five laps of the 17.3km 'Giro di Davesco'. That route heads north out of Lugano, into the suburb of Ressiga, before carrying on all the way up to Canabbio. Once there the riders hang a right and head across to Davesco before turning south and back towards Lugano. They then pass through Pregassona, and up to Viganello, before meeting the lake once again at Castagnola and heading back into the city centre.

Last year the race came down to a two-man sprint between Rémi Pauriol and Davide Rebellin, with Pauriol emerging victorious in rain-soaked conditions, so expect to see breakaways aplenty as the riders hope to emulate that result.
