Another strong signing over the winter, the arrival of Dario Cataldo should allow the team every chance to continue their stage race momentum.

Joining Team Sky as reigning Italian National Time Trial Champion, Cataldo has impressive all-round capabilities, with 12th place in the last two editions of the Giro d’Italia providing ample evidence he can compete over a three-week period.

With eight Grand Tours already under his belt, Cataldo has considerable stage race experience at the highest level, taking a notable victory on the queen stage at the Vuelta a Espana in 2012 on the steep ramps of the Cuitu Negru climb.

Who inspired you to start cycling?
I just began riding with my friends.
First bike:
My father bought me a Cannondale. It was beautiful.
Childhood hero:
When I was young it was Marco Pantani. I saw him a few times when I first started to race.
What has cycling taught you?
A lot. With cycling, and sport in general, you learn how life works.

Favourite race:
For an Italian the Giro d'Italia is the best.

Favourite ride:
I like the Il Lombardia a lot. I have ridden on these roads since I was 15 years old.
If you weren't a rider, what would you be?
I like to draw and do graphics so maybe architecture.
Interests away from cycling:
I like to draw and paint. I started at school with some friends who were doing graffiti. I still paint with pencils and watercolour.
