Egan Bernal can’t wait to start the 2018 season racing for the ‘team of his dreams’.
One of a host of exciting young riders new to Team Sky, the Tour de l’Avenir winner is set to make his debut at the Tour Down Under.
And the 20-year-old Colombian is ready to embark upon a season of discovery.
He said: “For me it’s really good to be here and for the next two or three seasons I want to learn a lot, gain experience and learn to be better at the time trial.
“I think it is the best team. We have a lot of big riders and it’s a good place to learn and get experience. It’s the team of my dreams.
“I want to learn from riders like Froomey and Kwiato and the other guys.”
Bernal picked up nine wins across his 2017 campaign and stole the show at the prestigious Tour de l’Avenir, winning two stages and the overall crown.
“It was really nice because I won the Tour de l’Avenir and for me it was very important,” he added.
“Also, on that day, I saw the tweets and my friends were sending me messages saying that Team Sky had announced I would be with them. It was very nice.”
It’s really nice to have two other Colombian guys like Sergio and Sebastian because they are really friendly with me and I can learn from them.
And Bernal is pleased to be joining fellow Colombians Sebastian and Sergio Henao at Team Sky.
“It’s really nice to have two other Colombian guys like Sergio and Sebastian because they are really friendly with me and I can learn from them.
“They talk a lot with me about how to be within the team and to speak Spanish with another Colombian is nice.”
