Michal Golas has extended his stay with Team Sky after signing a new contract.

The Pole is one of the most proven and loyal domestiques in the peloton and has enjoyed a successful first two years with the team.

In that time Golas has completed the Vuelta a Espana and Giro d’Italia, and has played a key role in team victories at Paris-Nice, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Hamburg Cyclassics and the Volta ao Algarve.

“I’m really happy to re-sign with the team,” Golas told TeamSky.com. “A new contract is always a reward for the job you’ve done, so I’m really happy I could do this and that the team has put their faith in me. I think I’ve found my place in this team and it was a natural decision that I would like to stay.

“When you join any new team you need to find your feet and what I found here was a great group of people with a really nice team spirit. This second year confirmed that I am really comfortable here and that I wanted to stay. I feel really good here and I get on well with everyone.

“It’s also a winning team so it’s obviously nice to ride with these guys and try to win big races.”

Golas also paid tribute to the team’s backroom staff, and expanded on his goals heading forward in his career.

He added: “We are looked after very well on this team. I think it’s the best place in the world for protecting the riders and providing everything we need to live our lives as professional riders. I don’t need to worry about anything but riding my bike and the team organise everything. It’s also nice to be able to stay at home in Poland and then be able to train with the team in Nice and do some quality work there.

“I’m a helper so I put the team goals first. I would like to ride in a Grand Tour-winning team. This year was amazing and I think we can repeat this. I would love to combine this with being able to win some Monuments with the guys and still ride Grand Tours. To win one of them with Chris (Froome) would be amazing.

“I hope I can bring some victories to the team – at least one before the end of my career. At my previous teams I’ve been able to win races and it would be nice to have a victory for this team as well in the coming years.”
