Sergio Henao completed a consistent week of racing by wrapping up eighth place overall at the Vuelta al Pais Vasco.

The Colombian clocked a competitive time on the final 27.7-kilometre test, holding firm amid a tight general classification battle.

24th on the day, Henao continued a great year by securing his top 10 overall, 1:51 back on eventual victor Alejandro Valverde. The Movistar rider was runner-up in Eibar, but his time was enough to ensure he won the race by 17 seconds, leading home a Spanish 1-2-3-4 on GC.

Alberto Contador (Trek-Segafredo) went toe to toe with his great rival on the final day but was forced to settle for second. When it came to stage win honours, no one could catch Primoz Roglic (Team LottoNL-Jumbo), who bagged his second stage win of the week, nine seconds ahead of Valverde.

Vasil Kiryienka was the first rider to go sub 37 minutes out on course, and was rewarded with seventh place after a strong ride on the flatter second half of the stage. Mikel Nieve was 29th, just 10 seconds back on team-mate Henao.
