Team Sky and Sky Academy collaborated to welcome young cycling fanatic Ollie Shears to Sky HQ in London recently for a surprise day out.

Ollie, aged 9, was treated to a special day in Osterley, organised by our friends at Sky, in conjunction with Team Sky.

Ollie’s story is a remarkable one.

His mum, Yvette, was sadly diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2017. Surgery followed and with ongoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy planned, unfortunately the prognosis is not good.

Inspired by his inspirational and courageous mum, Ollie set about raising awareness of this brutal illness - with the idea of competing in the Kids Dinton Duathlon, in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity, who fund medical research and give support to people affected by brain tumours.

Ollie’s target was to run 2km, cycle 6km and run 800m - a remarkable goal for such a young boy - with the aim of raising £1,000 for the charity.

On June 9th, not only did Ollie complete his duathlon, he smashed his fundraising target, with the current total eclipsing £3,300!

Ollie’s story fed back into Sky and just a few weeks later, he and his family - mum Yvette, dad Mark and brother Callum - were guests of Sky at their headquarters in Osterley.

Upon arrival, Ollie and co. were treated to a special guided tour, before meeting (and having a kick-about with!) some of the Soccer AM cast.

Lunch followed, before the family made their way over to Sky Academy in Sky Studios, where Sky Sports News is broadcast around the clock, 24/7.

Sports-mad Ollie was in his element, even recording his own ‘green screen’ production, alongside his little brother Callum.

His smile was a joy to behold - but things were about to get even better … and better … and better!

Upon returning to the Sky Academy studio, Ollie was shown a video message from family and friends, praising him for all his hard work in raising such a huge total for the charity through his amazing duathlon efforts.

Tears were flowing by now - but the tears soon turned to smiles, when up popped messages from his heroes at Team Sky, including Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas!

But the best was saved til last, when - upon the conclusion of the video - Team Sky’s Head of Communications Ian Taylor was on hand to present Ollie with a personalised Team Sky jersey … and a bespoke Team Sky bike for him to continue his duathlon dreams for many years to come.

Ollie - you’re an inspiration to us all and everyone at Team Sky is so proud of you!
