Tour Colombia Stage 2: La Ceja – La Ceja, 150.5km

Team Sky safely made their way through stage two at Tour Colombia to retain a strong overall foothold on the general classification.

With no recognised sprinter in the team the main objective was to stay safe and not lose time. Egan Bernal and Jhonatan Narvaez were alert in the final metres to finish ninth and 10th respectively amidst the bunch finish.

Colombian Alvaro Hodeg (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) was a popular winner on the day, fending off Martin Laas (Team Illuminate) at the finish.

The day was also special for Sebastian Henao, with the Team Sky rider enjoying great support on home roads.

“The profile looked flat today but all day it was a tough and really fast stage. The six riders up the road rode well and made it hard for the peloton. Our whole team worked together and communicated really well. We did a great job and that is a good sign for the next stages.

“It was a special day for me personally, passing my home town Rionegro four times during the stage. All my friends and family were on the roadside cheering for me so it was a really nice feeling. It gives you a lot of motivation.”
Stage two result:

1. Alvaro Hodeg (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) 3:21:40
2. Martin Laas (Team Illuminate) s.t.

5. Max Richeze (Deceuninck – Quick-Step)
