Tirreno-Adriatico stage one, Lido di Camaiore to Lido di Camaiore, 21.5km

Team Sky finished fifth on the opening stage of Tirreno-Adriatico as Mitchelton-Scott came out on top to put Michael Hepburn into the race lead.

The team were provisional third after their run in changeable conditions around Lido di Camaiore, until strong times from Mitchelton-Scott and Team Sunweb moved Team Sky down the standings.

“It's not ideal. We did a really strong ride, but we’re unfortunately we're quite far behind, but there’s still a lot of racing to go. We’ll see what we can do over the coming days.

“We know we can attack - there’s proper racing to be had on this terrain over the coming days, there’ll be a lot of attacks from everyone, I’m sure.

“We can be aggressive and we’ll be giving our all, that’s for sure."

What's next?

Stage two of Tirreno-Adriatico is a 195km trial from Camaiore to Pomarance which features several hilly climbs which could test both the GC men and puncheurs alike.
